Opening ceremony

Monday, July 4, 2022, 9:00 - 9:45 a.m. in the Hansesaal of the Congress Centrum Bremen (CCB). To attend the opening ceremony, you must be accredited (link to accreditation) and register. You can register informally by e-mail: Icrs2022.press@uni-bremen.de

The opening ceremony will begin with a performance developed especially for this event by the Bremen-based artist group "Stelzen-Art". The approximately 1,000 scientists from over 90 countries will be welcomed with contributions from:

  • Steffi Lemke, Federal Minister of the Environment
  • Professor Andréa Grottoli, President of the International Coral Reef Society
  • Dr. Claudia Schilling, Bremen Senator for Science
  • Prince Albert II of Monaco
  • Andreas Bovenschulte, Mayor of Bremen
  • Professor Bernd Scholz-Reiter, Rector of the University of Bremen
  • Professor Christian Wild, Chairman of the Coral Reef Conference & his team

The opening event will be moderated by Bremen presenter Anneke teer Veen.

Prince Albert II of Monaco is expected in the Hansa Room after the first Plenary by Nancy Knowlton at 10:30 and will address the participants.


Press conference

Monday, July 4, 2022, 9:50 - 11:30 a.m. in the Roselius Room of the Congress Centrum Bremen (CCB). Accreditation is sufficient for participation. 

Part 1, language German:

9:50 - 10:30 a.m.

Expected to attend:

  • Dr. Claudia Schilling, Senator for Science in Bremen 
  • Dr. Andreas Bovenschulte, Mayor of Bremen
  • Professor Bernd Scholz-Reiter, Rector of the University of Bremen
  • Professor Christian Wild, Chairman of the 15th ICRS

The press conferences will be moderated by Heinz Krimmer.


Part 2, language English:

11:00 - 11:30 a.m. 

Expected to attend:

  • Professor Andréa Grottoli, president of the International Coral Reef Society.
  • Dr. Nancy Knowlton, first plenary speaker and recipient of the Darwin Medal
  • Professor Christian Wild, Chair of the 15th ICRS

The press conferences will be moderated by Anneke teer Veen.


Additional press appointments

Appointments for O-tones or interviews outside the press conference are also possible. For example, on Friday, July 1, there will be an all-day opportunity to visit the Department of Marine Ecology (UFT building) of ICRS head Professor Christian Wild of the University of Bremen by appointment. The visit of the laboratories as well as discussions with students are also possible. Further dates by arrangement.
